Quick Answer
Online BCA admission in India is done directly on the university’s own portal. You check that you passed Class 12 with the subjects the university asks for, create an ABC ID and a DEB-ID, fill in the application, upload your Class 10 and 12 marksheets and ID, pay the application or registration fee, and wait for document verification. Admission is confirmed only after the university approves your documents and receives the fee.
Key Highlights
- For online BCA admission, a DEB-ID created through your ABC ID is mandatory for Indian learners, and LPU states that admission “cannot be granted” without it.
- Class 12 is the base qualification everywhere we checked, but the Maths rule differs: Amity’s FAQ asks for Maths, UPES accepts Maths, Computer Science or IT with a bridge course route, and MUJ, CU, GLA and ARKA JAIN state only a 10+2 pass.
- Upfront amounts at the time of applying range from a ₹500 application fee (MUJ) to a ₹10,000 seat booking (CU), as shown on official pages on 29 October 2026.
- UGC regulations allow two academic sessions a year, January to February and July to August, so a missed batch usually means waiting about six months.
- Six universities list an online BCA on the 2026-27 UGC-DEB entitled list (Amity, MUJ, LPU, CU, UPES and GLA), and ARKA JAIN’s BCA is on the recognised list up to January 2030.
How does online BCA admission work in India?
Online BCA admission works through each university’s own online application, not through a central counselling process or a common entrance test. You apply on the university’s portal, upload documents, pay a fee and wait for the university to verify your papers before your enrolment is confirmed.
That sounds simple, and mostly it is. The confusion comes from three things. First, every university words its eligibility a little differently, especially on Maths. Second, there is a national registration layer on top of the university form: the ABC ID and the DEB-ID. Third, the university website often shows a countdown or a “last date”, but it does not always say which session that date belongs to.
UGC’s 2020 regulations for online programmes say that admission is made directly by the university itself, and that the minimum qualification is whatever the Commission, a statutory body, or the university specifies, in that order (Regulation 14 of the UGC online programme regulations). For BCA, UGC has not set a separate national Maths rule, so each university’s own criteria decide whether you qualify. That is why you should always read the eligibility on the specific programme page you are applying to, rather than a general article.
If you have already been through the online MBA process or know someone who has, the steps are similar. Our guide to the online MBA admission process covers the same national registration steps from the postgraduate side. This article focuses on what changes for a BCA applicant coming straight from Class 12 or from a diploma.
When can you apply? Understanding the January and July sessions
You can apply for an online BCA in two windows a year. UGC’s regulations define the academic session for online programmes as beginning in January to February or July to August, and universities run their batches around those two starts.
In practice this means three things for you.
The “last date” you see on a university page usually refers to the batch the university is currently filling. On 29 October 2026, for example, MUJ’s BCA page showed a countdown ending on 29 October 2026, and LPU’s BCA page showed “Application Deadline: 31st Oct ’26” while its page title said “Admissions Open 2027”. Amity’s page metadata said “Admissions Open for Jul ’26”. These are not contradictions you need to solve yourself. Ask the admissions team, in writing, which session your application is for and when classes start.
There is also a national cut-off. The UGC-DEB student page stated on 29 October 2026 that the “Last date to admit learners in ODL/Online programmes for August, 2026 session is 13 October, 2026.” If a university is still accepting applications after that date, it is filling its next session, not the August 2026 one. That is normal, but you should know which batch you are joining.
Finally, missing a window is not a disaster. Batches typically restart every six months (LPU’s page says “Batches start every 6 months”), so if your documents are not ready, it is often better to wait for the next session than to rush an application with errors.
Are you eligible? A quick check before you apply
You are eligible for an online BCA at most universities if you have passed Class 12 from a recognised board, but some universities add a subject condition, usually Maths. Check this first, because it is the most common reason applications stall. Once you know you are eligible, our online BCA syllabus guide shows what you will study in each semester.
Here is what the official pages said when we checked them on 29 October 2026:
| University | Basic qualification on the official page | Subject or marks condition stated |
|---|---|---|
| Amity University Online | 10th and 12th class certificates | The FAQ says you need “10+2 with Mathematics”; the eligibility section does not repeat it |
| Manipal University Jaipur | 10+2 from a recognised national or state board; a 10+3 diploma is also accepted | No minimum marks or Maths condition stated |
| LPU Online | Class 12 (eligibility details sit behind the page’s eligibility tab) | Not stated in the page text we could read |
| Chandigarh University Online | 10+2 or equivalent in any stream from a recognised board | Any stream |
| UPES Online | 45% in Class 12 with Maths, Computer Science or IT, or 45% in a 3-year diploma after Class 10 | Bridge course if you lack Maths or computer subjects |
| GLA University Online | “12th class passed out learners” who meet the criteria | No minimum marks or Maths condition stated |
| ARKA JAIN University | Pass in 10+2 from any recognised board | None stated |
We compare these rules side by side, together with fees, in our guide to online BCA course fees. Treat that table as your shortlist filter before you start any application.
What if you did not study Maths in Class 12?
If you did not have Maths in Class 12, you still have options, but read each university’s wording closely. UPES is the clearest: its page says candidates without Maths, Computer Science or IT complete a “Basic Mathematics/Basic Computer Information Systems course” within six weeks of provisional admission, and final admission depends on passing it.
Amity is the opposite case. Its eligibility section lists only the Class 10 and 12 certificates, but its FAQ says you need to have cleared 10+2 with Mathematics. When a page says two different things, the safe move is to email the admissions team, quote both lines, and ask them to confirm in writing whether you qualify. Keep that email.
Chandigarh University says any stream, and MUJ, GLA and ARKA JAIN mention no subject condition on their BCA pages. That is helpful, but it is not the same as a written confirmation for your case. If your Class 12 was in commerce or arts, ask before you pay.
What if you have a diploma instead of Class 12?
A few universities accept a diploma route. MUJ accepts a 10+3 diploma from a recognised institute, and UPES accepts a 3-year diploma after Class 10 with at least 45%. The other pages we checked did not mention diplomas, so ask those universities directly.
What are ABC ID and DEB-ID, and how do you create them?
The ABC ID is your Academic Bank of Credits account, and the DEB-ID is a learner ID issued on UGC’s Distance Education Bureau portal using that ABC ID. You need both before a university can admit you to an online programme.
UGC’s public notice on learner registration made the DEB-ID mandatory for every learner, except foreign learners, from the session beginning October 2024. The UGC-DEB student portal describes it as a unique ID “to be mandatorily created by the learner”, and LPU’s own DEB-ID guidance is blunt: “Without a valid DEB-ID, admission cannot be granted to ODL/OL Programmes.”
The order matters:
- Create your ABC ID first. The DEB portal says students can create an ABC ID through their DigiLocker account.
- Check your ABC or APAAR card carefully for spelling, date of birth and other details. The DEB portal has a section titled “Steps to Correct APAAR/ABC Card Before Creating DEB ID”, and it advises you to fix the card first.
- Generate your DEB-ID on the DEB portal using the ABC ID.
- Enter both IDs in the university application form. LPU’s application form, for example, has separate fields for DEB ID and ABC ID.
The DEB-ID stays valid for life for online and distance learning, so if you later move on to an MCA or MBA online, you will reuse it. MUJ’s BCA page also notes that creating an ABC account has been mandatory for universities offering online or distance programmes since 2022-23, and it asks Indian learners for their 12-digit Aadhaar number and name exactly as it appears on Aadhaar.
The single most common delay we see is a mismatch between the name on the Aadhaar, the ABC record and the Class 12 marksheet. Fix that before you start, not after the university flags it.
Step-by-step: how to apply for an online BCA
The process has the same shape at every university we checked: register, fill the form, upload documents, pay, and wait for verification. Here is the sequence, with what to watch at each step.
Step 1: Shortlist and confirm the listing
Pick two or three universities whose eligibility you clearly meet. Before you register, confirm that the university and the BCA appear on the UGC-DEB list for your session. Our guide to checking a UGC approved online MBA walks through how to read the DEB lists, and the same method works for a BCA.
Step 2: Create your ABC ID and DEB-ID
Do this before the application so you are not stuck halfway through the form. Keep both numbers in a note on your phone.
Step 3: Register on the university portal
You will usually enter your name, email, mobile number and course. Some universities collect the application or registration fee at this point. LPU’s admission portal lists “Registration” as the first step: sign up and pay the initial registration fee.
Step 4: Fill in the application form
Enter personal details, Class 10 and 12 details, and your ID numbers. Use your name exactly as it appears on your marksheets and Aadhaar.
Step 5: Upload documents
Upload clear scans of originals. LPU states that you need to scan the original documents, not photocopies, and that files must be clearly visible and not password-protected.
Step 6: Pay the fee for the first semester or year
Most universities ask for the first instalment before or alongside verification. MUJ’s BCA page describes this as paying the admission fee for the first semester or year, or for the full programme.
Step 7: Document verification and confirmation
The university checks your papers and confirms admission. At LPU, you receive provisional registration and access to the learning platform before the final document check. At ARKA JAIN, you receive an offer letter, pay the fee, and then get an enrolment number and ID card.
Step 8: Start classes
Once confirmed, you get login details for the learning platform. If you want to know what the weekly routine looks like once classes start, our guide to what studying online is like explains live sessions, recorded lectures and online exams; it is written for MBA students, but the platform experience is very similar for a BCA.
Online BCA admission at each university
The broad steps match, but each university publishes different details. Here is what the official BCA pages showed on 29 October 2026.
| University | Admission steps stated | Upfront fee at application | Official page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amity University Online | Not listed on the BCA page | Not stated on the BCA page | Amity online BCA |
| Manipal University Jaipur | Application and fee, programme fee, document upload, university approval | ₹500 application fee, non-refundable | MUJ online BCA (onlinemanipal.com) |
| LPU Online | Registration, application form, provisional registration and LMS access, document verification | ₹1,000 registration fee, non-refundable, not part of the programme fee | LPU online BCA |
| Chandigarh University Online | Not listed; “Apply Now” button | ₹10,000 to book a seat | CU online BCA |
| UPES Online | Apply Now, fill details, upload scans, pay application fee | Application fee amount not stated | UPES online BCA |
| GLA University Online | Not listed; “Apply Now” button | ₹2,000 one-time registration | GLA online BCA |
| ARKA JAIN University | Apply online, offer letter, fee payment, enrolment number and ID card | ₹2,500 one-time registration | ARKA JAIN online BCA |
Amity University Online
Amity’s BCA page lists the documents for Indian students as the Class 10 certificate and the Class 12 certificate, and foreign students need an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities. The page does not set out admission steps or an application fee, so ask the counsellor for both in writing. Remember the Maths point: the FAQ asks for 10+2 with Mathematics. You can also read about the university on our Amity University Online profile.
Manipal University Jaipur
MUJ publishes a four-step process: application with a non-refundable ₹500 fee, fee payment for the first semester or year or the full programme, document upload, and university approval. Its BCA page says Aadhaar is mandatory proof of identity for Indian citizens, that Class 10 and 12 marksheets are required, and that no work experience is needed. Our Manipal University Jaipur page has more on the university itself.
MUJ’s term-end exams are computer-based and online proctored, and the page says they can be taken from home on a Windows desktop or laptop with the latest Google Chrome. The Safe Exam Browser is not compatible with iOS devices. If your only device is an iPad, sort that out before you enrol.
LPU Online
LPU publishes the most detailed admission flow of the pages we checked. You register and pay a ₹1,000 registration fee that is non-refundable and not part of the programme fee, complete the application with documents, receive provisional registration and access to the learning platform, and then the admissions team verifies your documents. LPU’s list of eight documents is in the documents section below. See our LPU Online profile for the wider picture.
Chandigarh University Online
CU’s BCA page asks for 10+2 or equivalent in any stream and shows a ₹10,000 seat booking. It does not list admission steps or documents, so request the checklist from the counsellor before you pay. One more point: the page footer still referred to “Admissions Closing July Session 2025” and an early bird scholarship closing on 14 October with no year, so confirm the current session and any offer dates directly.
UPES Online
UPES lists five steps: visit the site, click Apply Now, fill in personal, academic and contact details, upload scanned documents such as marksheets and ID proof, and pay the application fee online. The amount of the application fee is not shown on the page. UPES is also the only page that explains a bridge course for students without Maths, Computer Science or IT, as covered above.
GLA University Online
GLA’s BCA page asks for “12th class passed out learners” who meet the criteria, shows a ₹2,000 one-time registration fee, and does not list admission steps or documents. Ask for both. Our GLA University profile has more background.
ARKA JAIN University
ARKA JAIN describes a three-stage process: apply online and send your credentials to the programme coordinator, receive an offer of admission with payment instructions (online or by demand draft), and receive an enrolment number and identity card once the fee is received. A ₹2,500 one-time registration fee is paid with the application. Before you apply, read the listing note in the UGC-DEB section below. More on the university is on our ARKA JAIN University page.
Documents required for online BCA admission
You will need your Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets and certificates, a government photo ID (Aadhaar at MUJ), a photograph and a signature at minimum. LPU publishes the fullest list, which is a good master checklist even if you apply elsewhere:
- Scanned passport-size coloured photograph
- Scanned signature
- Scanned qualification documents from Class 10 to your highest qualification
- Scanned diploma or degree documents, if applicable
- Scanned government ID proof with photograph
- Scanned residence or address proof, if different from the ID
- Scanned disability certificate, if applicable
- Scanned sample of handwriting, to be referred to in examinations
MUJ adds that Aadhaar is mandatory for Indian citizens and lists optional documents such as a reserved category certificate, divyaang certificate or defence service certificate where you are claiming a benefit. Amity lists the Class 10 and 12 certificates, and for foreign qualifications, an Association of Indian Universities equivalence certificate.
A few practical tips that save time:
- Scan the originals in colour, at a resolution where every mark and seal is readable.
- Use the same spelling of your name across every document. If your marksheet and Aadhaar differ, get an affidavit or correction process started early and tell the university upfront.
- Keep each file below whatever size limit the portal shows, and name files clearly, such as “Class12_Marksheet.pdf”.
- Never upload password-protected PDFs. LPU says these may make your form incomplete.
How much do you pay at the time of admission?
At the time of applying, you pay only a small application or registration amount at most universities, followed by the first semester or year of the programme fee once you are accepted. The application-stage amounts on 29 October 2026 were:
- MUJ: ₹500 application fee, non-refundable
- LPU: ₹1,000 registration fee, non-refundable, not part of the programme fee
- GLA: ₹2,000 one-time registration
- ARKA JAIN: ₹2,500 one-time registration
- Chandigarh University: ₹10,000 to book a seat
- Amity and UPES: amount not stated on the BCA page
The full programme fees, semester fees, EMI options and scholarships are a separate topic, and we cover them university by university in our online BCA fees comparison. Before you pay anything, ask two questions in writing: is this amount refundable, and is it adjusted against the programme fee? Registration fees at MUJ and LPU are stated as non-refundable.
Under UGC’s regulations, fees for online programmes must be charged as declared in the university’s prospectus, with a receipt, paid to the university. Pay only through the university’s own portal or account, never in cash to an individual.
Can you apply while waiting for your Class 12 results?
None of the online BCA pages we checked on 29 October 2026 clearly said that students awaiting Class 12 results can apply. UPES mentions “provisional admission”, but only in the context of completing a bridge course within six weeks. LPU gives provisional registration and platform access before document verification, but that is about verification order, not about pending results.
So if your result is not out yet, ask the university directly and get the answer in writing. In most cases it is simpler to apply for the next session once you have your marksheet, since batches run every six months.
Is there an entrance exam for online BCA admission?
None of the seven BCA pages we checked mentioned an entrance test for Indian applicants. Admission is based on your Class 12 qualification, the university’s subject conditions, and document verification. If a counsellor tells you that a test is required, ask for the official page or prospectus that says so.
What happens if your documents are rejected?
If your documents are rejected or flagged, the university will usually ask you to re-upload a clearer or corrected file. Your admission stays incomplete until verification passes, so respond quickly.
The common reasons are easy to avoid:
- Blurry scans or photocopies instead of originals
- A name or date of birth that does not match across the marksheet, Aadhaar and ABC record
- Missing Class 10 documents (many applicants upload only Class 12)
- Password-protected files
- A Maths or subject condition that the documents do not show
If the issue is a mismatch in your ABC or APAAR record, fix the record first, then update your DEB-ID, as the DEB portal advises. Only then re-submit to the university. If the university concludes that you do not meet the eligibility, ask in writing what happens to any amount you have paid, and which part is refundable.
Which universities list an online BCA on the UGC-DEB list?
On the UGC-DEB 2026-27 entitled list, Amity University Uttar Pradesh, Manipal University Jaipur, Lovely Professional University, Chandigarh University, UPES and GLA University appear with a BCA. Sikkim Manipal University and NMIMS do not offer an online BCA on that list.
ARKA JAIN University is on the 2026-27 recognised list, not the entitled list. Its BCA, MCA and BCom (General) are recognised from the July-August 2025 session to 2029-30 (up to January 2030 only), and its BBA and MBA (General) from the February 2025 session up to July-August 2029, so check that your admission session falls inside the recognition period before you pay. These lists change session by session, so an earlier listing is not proof for your batch.
Why does this matter at admission time? Because the degree you receive must come from a programme the university was permitted to run in online mode for your session. UGC also requires the mode of delivery to be printed on the back of the degree and mark sheets, which we explain in our guide to what your degree certificate shows.
Common mistakes that delay online BCA admission
Most delays come from a handful of avoidable mistakes:
- Starting the university form before creating the ABC ID and DEB-ID
- Assuming “any stream” applies everywhere, when Amity’s FAQ and UPES ask for Maths or computer subjects
- Paying a seat booking or registration fee before confirming eligibility in writing
- Uploading photocopies or blurred phone photos
- Using a nickname or a different spelling of your name on the form
- Missing which session a “last date” belongs to
- Not checking the UGC-DEB listing for the BCA
Your online BCA admission checklist
Before you click submit, run through this list:
- I meet the university’s Class 12 condition, including any Maths, Computer Science or IT requirement, and I have it in writing if the page is unclear
- My ABC ID is created and the details match my marksheet
- My DEB-ID is generated from the ABC ID
- The university and the BCA appear on the UGC-DEB list for my session
- I know which session (January or July) I am applying for, and when classes start
- I have colour scans of original Class 10 and 12 documents, ID, photo and signature
- I know the application or registration amount, and whether it is refundable
- I know the first-semester or first-year fee and the payment options
- My device meets the exam requirements (for example, MUJ needs Windows and Chrome for proctored exams)
If you are thinking two steps ahead, the same IDs and most of the same documents will carry over to an online master’s. Our guide to online MCA course fees shows what the next step costs at these universities. When you get there, our guide to MCA online admission covers the steps and documents.
Not sure which university’s eligibility you meet, or which session you can still catch? Talk to an admission counsellor and we will go through your Class 12 marksheet, the Maths condition and the current UGC-DEB listing with you before you pay anything.
How GetOnlineDegree.in Helps
We help you shortlist online BCA programmes from universities on the UGC-DEB lists, using the official programme pages rather than brochures. When you speak to us, we check your Class 12 subjects against each university’s stated eligibility, point out where a page is unclear (such as Amity’s Maths line or CU’s session dates), and show you where each programme appears on the DEB list for your session.
We can also walk you through creating your ABC ID and DEB-ID in the right order, and help you put together a clean document set so verification does not stall. The decision, and the application, stay yours.
Conclusion
Online BCA admission is straightforward once you take it in the right order: confirm the subject condition, create your ABC ID and DEB-ID, check the UGC-DEB listing, then apply with clean scans of your original documents. Most problems come from skipping one of those steps, not from the application form itself.
Read each university’s own page, get anything unclear in writing, and do not pay a seat booking before you know you qualify. A six-month wait for the next session is always better than starting a degree you cannot complete.
FAQs
What is the eligibility for online BCA admission?
You need to have passed Class 12 from a recognised board. Some universities add a subject rule: Amity’s FAQ asks for Maths, and UPES asks for Maths, Computer Science or IT with 45%, or a bridge course. MUJ, CU, GLA and ARKA JAIN state only a 10+2 pass on their BCA pages. Always confirm your own case in writing.
Is a DEB-ID compulsory for online BCA admission?
Yes, for Indian learners. UGC made the DEB-ID mandatory for online and distance programmes from the session beginning October 2024. You create it on the UGC-DEB portal using your ABC ID, and LPU states that admission cannot be granted without a valid DEB-ID. Foreign learners are the exception.
Can I get online BCA admission without Maths in Class 12?
At some universities, yes. CU accepts any stream, and MUJ, GLA and ARKA JAIN state no Maths condition. UPES admits students without Maths or computer subjects provisionally, on condition that they pass a bridge course within six weeks. Amity’s FAQ asks for Maths, so check with Amity before applying.
What documents are needed for online BCA admission?
At minimum, your Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets and certificates, a government photo ID, a photograph and a signature. MUJ makes Aadhaar mandatory for Indian citizens. LPU’s list also includes address proof if different from the ID, a disability certificate if applicable, and a handwriting sample. Scan originals, not photocopies.
When does online BCA admission open?
UGC allows two sessions a year, starting January to February and July to August, and universities fill batches for each. University pages often show a countdown or last date, but always ask which session it applies to. The UGC-DEB portal listed 13 October 2026 as the last date to admit learners for the August 2026 session.
