Quick Answer
Yes, you can study an online MBA in hospital management in India. As checked on 3 November 2026, Amity University Online, Chandigarh University, LPU Online and ARKA JAIN University publish hospital or healthcare management tracks inside their online MBA, with fees from about ₹1,08,500 to ₹3,29,000 for two years. It is a management degree: UGC rules keep Medical, Nursing and Para-Medical programmes off the online route.
Key Highlights
- An online MBA in hospital management trains you to run the business side of hospitals, clinics, diagnostic centres and insurers. It does not train you to treat patients, and it does not replace a clinical qualification.
- Four universities we checked on 3 November 2026 publish a dedicated healthcare track with named subjects: Amity (Hospital and Healthcare Management), Chandigarh University (Hospital Management), LPU (Hospital and Healthcare Management) and ARKA JAIN (Healthcare Management).
- NMIMS, UPES and GLA list no healthcare specialization on their online MBA pages, so they are out if you want sector subjects.
- Regulation 2(z) of the UGC 2020 regulations bars Medical, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dental and other Para-Medical programmes from online mode. The 2026-27 UGC-DEB online list still shows MBA (Hospital Administration) programmes, which tells you the management route is treated differently.
- Official list fees for the two years range from ₹2,00,000 at LPU to ₹3,29,000 at Amity, with ARKA JAIN lowest at about ₹1,08,500 including registration and exam fees (our calculation).
Hospital management or hospitality management: which one did you mean?
This article is about hospitals and healthcare. The two words look almost the same in a search box, and many people land on the wrong page.
Hospital management is the management of healthcare organisations: hospital operations, patient services, healthcare quality, medical records, health insurance and healthcare policy. Hospitality management is about hotels, travel, tourism and events.
If you meant hotels and travel, read our guide to the online MBA hospitality management options instead. It explains why hotel management itself cannot be studied online in India and which tourism, airline and event tracks exist. If you meant hospitals, clinics and health insurers, read on.
What is an online MBA in hospital management?
It is a two-year Master of Business Administration, delivered online, in which the third and fourth semesters focus on running healthcare organisations. The first year usually covers the same management core as any MBA: accounting, economics, marketing, finance, human resources, statistics and research methods. The second year adds healthcare subjects such as hospital administration, healthcare operations, quality management, health informatics and healthcare law.
Universities use different names for the same idea. You will see “Hospital and Healthcare Management” at Amity and LPU, “Hospital Management” at Chandigarh University and “Healthcare Management” at ARKA JAIN. Search terms such as healthcare MBA, online healthcare MBA, online MBA in hospital administration and MBA hospital management online usually point to these same programmes.
In every case the degree is an MBA. The specialization tells an employer what you studied in your second year, but the qualification itself is a management degree under the 2014 Specification of Degrees, where the MBA appears as a master’s degree with a minimum duration of two years.
Can hospital management be studied online under UGC rules?
Hospital management as an MBA specialization can, but clinical programmes cannot. The distinction comes from the UGC online and ODL regulations notified in September 2020.
Regulation 2(z) defines “prohibited programmes” as those that “shall not be permitted to be offered in Open and Distance Learning Mode and Online Mode”. The list opens with “the programmes in the disciplines (including their allied domains) of Engineering, Medical, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and other Para-Medical disciplines, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dental, Architecture, Law, Agriculture, Horticulture, Hotel Management, Catering Technology, Culinary Sciences, Aircraft Maintenance, Visual Arts and Sports”.
The same regulations add a rule on practical work. Under Regulation 3(C)(ii), “any programme requiring practical or laboratory course as a curricular requirement, shall be prohibited through Online mode, except in cases where practical component is limited to programming and coding including software tools.”
So why does an MBA with a hospital track appear on the UGC-DEB list?
The regulation itself does not explain how the phrase “allied domains” applies to management specializations, and we will not interpret it for you. What we can show you is what the regulator publishes. The 2026-27 UGC-DEB entitled list for online programmes includes entries titled “Master of Business Administration (Hospital Administration)”, for example against JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research. Our partner universities appear on the same list with “Master of Business Administration”, and their healthcare tracks are specializations within that MBA.
In plain terms: the online route gives you a management qualification for the healthcare sector. It does not give you a medical, nursing, pharmacy or paramedical qualification, and it does not make you eligible for any clinical role that needs one.
Clinical vs management: where is the line?
| Clinical programmes | Hospital or healthcare management MBA | |
|---|---|---|
| Examples | MBBS, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, dental, paramedical courses | MBA with Hospital Management, Hospital and Healthcare Management or Healthcare Management |
| Online mode allowed? | No: listed as prohibited under Regulation 2(z) | Yes, when the university is listed for the MBA on the current UGC-DEB list |
| What it prepares you for | Patient care and treatment | Running operations, quality, finance, people, marketing and policy in healthcare organisations |
| Practical training | Core part of the programme | Not a curricular requirement on the pages we checked; some universities offer optional exposure such as observership |
| Licence to practise | Governed by the relevant professional regulator | None; it is a management degree |
If you are a doctor, nurse or pharmacist, your clinical qualification stays your licence to practise. The MBA adds management knowledge on top of it.
Which universities offer an online MBA in hospital management?
Four of the universities we checked on 3 November 2026 publish a healthcare track with named subjects on an official programme page. Here is what each page showed.
| University | Healthcare track in the online MBA? | What the official page shows |
|---|---|---|
| Amity University Online | Yes: MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Management | Offered with Medvarsity; named healthcare subjects in semesters 3 and 4; Apollo Hospitals observership for eligible learners in India |
| Chandigarh University | Yes: Hospital Management specialization | Six healthcare electives listed across semesters 3 and 4; page says the MBA allows dual specialization |
| LPU Online | Yes: Online MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Management | Dedicated page names topic areas; full semester list not shown on the page |
| ARKA JAIN University | Yes: Online MBA in Healthcare Management | Full semester-wise subject list on the page |
| Sikkim Manipal University | Not confirmed today | SMU’s dual-specialization MBA has listed Healthcare among its options on Online Manipal pages, but we could not open the official page on 3 November 2026 to confirm current subjects and fees |
| Manipal University Jaipur | Not confirmed today | We could not open the official page on 3 November 2026 |
| NMIMS | No | The NMIMS online MBA page lists Marketing, Business Management, Finance, Human Resources, Operations and Data Sciences, IT Management and Business Analytics |
| UPES | No | The UPES online MBA page lists sector tracks such as logistics, power, oil and gas and infrastructure, with no healthcare option |
| GLA University | No | The GLA online MBA page lists no healthcare or hospital option |
Outside our partner group, the 2026-27 entitled list carries a few MBA (Hospital Administration) programmes at other universities. Whichever university you consider, check that it is listed for the MBA for your admission session. Our guide to the UGC approved online MBA shows you how to read that list line by line.
What do you study in an online MBA in hospital and healthcare management?
The subject lists below are copied from each official page as checked on 3 November 2026. Universities revise syllabi, so ask for the current curriculum for your intake.
Amity University Online: MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Management
The Amity hospital and healthcare MBA page lists four semesters.
| Semester | Subjects listed |
|---|---|
| Semester 1 | Accounting for Managers; Professional Communication; Managerial Economics; Marketing Management; Statistics for Management |
| Semester 2 | Conflict Resolution and Management; Financial Management; Human Resource Management; Legal Aspects of Business; Business Research Methods |
| Semester 3 | Professional Ethics and Social Responsibility for Sustainability; Strategic Management; Minor Project; Management of Healthcare Organization Clinical Departments; Management of HealthCare Organization Non Clinical Departments; Patient Care Management in Critical Care Context; Strategic Healthcare Leadership |
| Semester 4 | Major Project; Management in Action Social Economic and Ethical Issues; Digital Marketing; AI Tools and Applications; Design Thinking and Innovation in Health Care; Advanced Hospital Operations and Strategic Management |
Two things stand out. First, the semester three subjects split hospital management into clinical and non-clinical departments, which mirrors how a hospital is actually organised. Second, the page describes a four-week observership at Apollo Hospitals and says observership opportunities are available for eligible learners in India only. International learners would have to travel to India for it.
Chandigarh University: MBA in Hospital Management
The CU hospital management MBA page shows a 108-credit programme. The first two semesters are the common CU MBA core, and the healthcare electives sit in semesters three and four.
| Semester | Subjects listed |
|---|---|
| Semester 1 | Business, Society and Law; Financial Reporting and Analysis; Leadership and Organization Behavior; Managerial Economics; Marketing Management |
| Semester 2 | People Management; Consumer Behaviour; Business Research Methods; Financial Management; Operations and Quality Management |
| Semester 3 | Strategy, Business and Globalization; Digital Marketing; Decision Science; Hospital Management electives: Hospital Planning and Services; AI in Healthcare Operations and Diagnostics; Health Informatics and Digital Health Platforms; Human Resource Management in Health Care |
| Semester 4 | Project Management; Values and Ethics; Academic Research Writing; Hospital Management electives: Ethical and Legal Aspects of Health Care; Health Care Marketing |
The page also lists Harvard ManageMentor modules worth 20 credits, such as Strategy Planning and Execution, Decision-Making and Team Management. The specialization leans towards digital health and AI in operations, which suits you if you work in hospital IT, diagnostics or health-tech.
LPU Online: MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Management
The LPU hospital and healthcare MBA page does not print a semester-by-semester subject list. It does name the areas the programme covers: Hospital Administration, Healthcare Operations, Medical Logistics, Healthcare Delivery Systems and Public Health Administration, Medical Terminology and Medical Records, and Quality Assurance in Healthcare, along with TQM, Lean and Six Sigma tools such as fishbone diagrams, Pareto analysis and root cause analysis.
Because the full list is not on the page, ask LPU for the semester-wise syllabus before you pay. The page also mentions access to LinkedIn Learning and recommends 8 to 10 hours of study a week.
ARKA JAIN University: Online MBA in Healthcare Management
The ARKA JAIN healthcare MBA page gives the most complete subject list of the four.
| Semester | Subjects listed |
|---|---|
| Semester 1 | Business Economics; Sustainability and Ethics; Financial Reporting and Corporate Finance; Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management; Quantitative Techniques for Business Decisions; Generative AI for Online Learners |
| Semester 2 | Entrepreneurship; Marketing Management; Banking, Financial Services and Insurance; Corporate Law; Business Analytics |
| Semester 3 | Business Research Methods; Operations Management; Healthcare Management; Healthcare Operations Management; Hospital Administration; Open Elective: Healthcare Marketing |
| Semester 4 | Healthcare Quality Management; Healthcare Laws and Ethics; Health Insurance and Medical Tourism; Digital Healthcare and Healthcare Analytics; Cross Course: Healthcare Economics and Policy; Project or Research |
The Health Insurance and Medical Tourism subject makes this track relevant if you work with insurers or third-party administrators. One point to check: the page says the programme is “offered as a UGC-entitled online degree”. On the UGC-DEB recognised list for 2026-27, ARKA JAIN appears as a recognised (not entitled) university for BBA and MBA (General). Ask the university to confirm in writing how the healthcare specialization appears on your degree and mark sheet, and which list entry covers it.
How much does an online MBA in hospital management cost?
Fees vary by more than ₹2 lakh across the four universities. All figures below are as checked on the official pages on 3 November 2026.
| University | Fee as shown on the official page | Two-year total |
|---|---|---|
| Amity | ₹82,300 per semester; ₹1,56,280 a year (reduced from ₹1,64,500); one-time payment ₹3,02,680 (reduced from ₹3,29,000); no-cost EMI from ₹13,023 a month over 24 months | Page shows ₹3,29,000 at the semester rate; ₹3,12,560 at the annual or EMI rate; ₹3,02,680 one-time |
| Chandigarh University | List fee ₹2,33,500; ₹1,75,125 after a 25% early bird scholarship (₹87,563 a year or ₹43,781 a semester); seat booking ₹10,000 | ₹2,33,500 list, ₹1,75,125 after scholarship |
| LPU | Actual fee ₹50,000 per semester including a ₹2,000 exam fee; ₹40,400 per semester after a 20% student grant valid until 7 November 2026; registration ₹1,000 | ₹2,00,000 at the actual fee, or ₹1,61,600 with the grant (our calculation), plus ₹1,000 registration |
| ARKA JAIN | ₹25,000 per semester; registration ₹2,500; exam fee ₹3,000 a year | ₹1,08,500 including registration and two years of exam fees (our calculation) |
A few notes on reading this table:
- Amity’s semester figure. Four semesters at ₹82,300 come to ₹3,29,200 by our calculation, while the page states an effective fee of ₹3,29,000. Ask for the exact schedule for the January 2027 session, which the page shows as open.
- CU’s early bird scholarship. The page shows the 25% concession without an end date. Treat the reduced figure as something to confirm for your intake.
- LPU’s student grant. The 20% grant is shown as valid until 7 November 2026. If you are reading this later, check what applies to your batch.
- Comparison with the general MBA. Amity’s general online MBA was listed at ₹2,25,000 in our online MBA fees comparison, so the healthcare programme with Medvarsity and the observership costs more. At CU, LPU and ARKA JAIN the healthcare fee is close to or the same as the general MBA fee.
Fees, scholarships and grants change between sessions. Always ask for a written fee schedule for your intake that includes registration, exam and any project charges.
Who should do an online MBA in hospital management?
It suits people who already work in, or plan to join, the healthcare sector in a non-clinical or leadership role, and who need to keep working while they study. The official pages describe their audience in similar terms. CU names professionals in hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres, front-office staff and coordinators, life sciences and allied health graduates, and nurses and clinical support staff moving into non-clinical leadership. Amity names graduates entering healthcare, healthcare professionals moving into management, and people interested in hospital operations, quality or administration.
Here is how the fit looks for common backgrounds.
| Your background | What the MBA adds | Things to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| Doctors (MBBS, BDS, BAMS and similar) | Finance, operations, people management and strategy for running a department, clinic or hospital | Your clinical degree remains your licence to practise; the MBA is for the management side |
| Nurses | A route from ward-level supervision to nursing administration, quality or operations roles | CU names nurses moving into non-clinical leadership as a target group |
| Pharmacists | Management skills for hospital pharmacy, procurement, supply chain and pharma operations | LPU covers medical logistics; an operations track may also suit you |
| Hospital administration and front-office staff | Formal management knowledge for supervisor and manager roles | Check how much weekly study time you can give |
| Health insurance and TPA staff | Healthcare operations, quality and insurance context | ARKA JAIN lists Health Insurance and Medical Tourism as a subject |
| Graduates from any discipline entering healthcare | Sector vocabulary and context alongside a full MBA core | Without sector experience, a general MBA may keep more options open |
If you hold a full-time job, our guide to the online MBA for working professionals explains how live classes, recorded lectures and online exams fit around shifts. Doctors and senior managers with long experience sometimes also compare this with an online executive MBA, which is designed around work experience rather than a sector.
Who should not choose it?
It is the wrong fit if you want to become a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, physiotherapist or paramedical professional. Those are clinical programmes, and the UGC regulations quoted above bar them from online mode. It is also a weak fit if you are not sure you want to stay in healthcare: a general MBA with operations or marketing keeps more sectors open while you decide.
Is an MHA better than an MBA in healthcare management?
They are different degrees, and the choice depends on what is available to you and what you want to do. A Master of Hospital Administration (MHA) or Master of Health Administration is a separate master’s degree focused entirely on health administration. An MBA in hospital or healthcare management is a business degree with a healthcare specialization in the second year.
What we can verify for online study is narrow. On the 2026-27 UGC-DEB entitled list for online programmes, we found programmes titled “Master of Business Administration (Hospital Administration)”, but we did not find a programme titled Master of Hospital Administration or Master of Health Administration. None of the nine partner universities we checked lists an online MHA on its official pages. The list is a scanned document, so check the current version yourself if an MHA is what you want.
If you are searching for an MHA online, the practical online options at our partner universities are the MBA tracks above. If you specifically want an MHA, check whether the university offers it in online mode, and look for its exact name on the current UGC-DEB list before you enrol.
| MBA in hospital or healthcare management (online) | MHA | |
|---|---|---|
| Degree type | MBA with a healthcare specialization | Separate master’s degree in health or hospital administration |
| Breadth | Full business core plus healthcare electives | Health administration throughout |
| Online at the partners we checked | Yes, at Amity, CU, LPU and ARKA JAIN | Not found on their official pages |
| On the 2026-27 online entitled list | MBA (Hospital Administration) entries found | No MHA title found in our check |
What roles does a hospital management MBA prepare you for?
The roles depend on your experience before the MBA as much as on the degree. The official pages name roles in general terms. Amity’s page, for example, lists roles such as Clinical Operations Coordinator, Quality Improvement Associate, Hospital Operations Manager, Patient Experience Manager and Head of Quality across entry, mid and advanced levels.
In practice, hospital and healthcare management roles fall into a few families:
- Operations. Running departments, beds, patient flow, front office, admissions and discharges.
- Quality and accreditation. Building and auditing quality systems, patient safety processes and documentation.
- Patient experience. Handling patient feedback, service standards and grievance systems.
- Finance, billing and insurance. Hospital revenue, billing, insurance claims and work with third-party administrators.
- Health IT and data. Medical records, health informatics and digital health platforms.
- Supply chain. Procurement, pharmacy stores and medical logistics.
We do not quote salary or placement figures. No official source we found publishes verified outcome data for online graduates of these specializations, and figures you see on comparison sites vary widely and are rarely sourced. Your pay after the MBA will depend on your prior experience, your employer, your city and the role you move into.
If your interest is mainly process, quality and supply chain, compare the healthcare track with an online MBA in operations management, whose skills apply to hospitals as well as other service businesses.
Online MBA or distance MBA in hospital management?
Choose the mode that the university is listed for, and know the difference before you apply. Online programmes are delivered through a learning platform with live and recorded classes and online exams. Distance (ODL) programmes rely mainly on self-study material and have exam centres. Both are covered by the same UGC regulations, and Regulation 22 treats degrees from recognised universities in either mode as equivalent to conventional degrees.
People often search for an MBA in hospital management through distance education. If you are looking at a distance programme, check the university on the UGC-DEB ODL list rather than the online list. Our comparison of the online MBA vs distance MBA explains the practical differences in classes, exams and territory rules.
How do you check a hospital management MBA before you enrol?
Check four things in writing before you pay any booking amount.
- The listing. Find the university and the MBA on the current UGC-DEB list for your admission session. The 2026-27 entitled list and the recognised list are both public PDFs.
- The degree name. Ask how the specialization will appear on your degree certificate and mark sheet. Under Regulation 16(2), the mode of delivery must also be printed on the back of every degree and mark sheet.
- The subject list. Get the semester-wise syllabus for your intake, especially at LPU, where the page does not print it.
- The DEB-ID. Every online and ODL learner needs a DEB-ID, created through the ABC-ID, from the October 2024 session onwards, as set out in the UGC DEB-ID notice.
Red flags to watch for
| Red flag | Why it matters | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| An “online nursing” or “online paramedical” degree | Nursing and Para-Medical disciplines are prohibited programmes for online and ODL mode under Regulation 2(z) | Ask what degree is awarded and look for it on the UGC-DEB list |
| A promise that the MBA lets you work in a clinical role | An MBA is a management degree, not a clinical licence | Keep clinical and management qualifications separate in your plans |
| “Hospitality” and “hospital” used loosely | They are different fields with different subjects | Read the subject list before you apply |
| A scholarship or grant with no date or session | It may not apply to your intake | Ask for a written fee schedule for your session |
| Salary or placement promises | No official outcome data exists for these online tracks | Ask for documented outcomes for the online cohort only |
| A specialization title that will not appear on your documents | Some tracks are electives within a general MBA | Ask how the specialization is shown on your degree and mark sheet |
Once you have answers, our online MBA admission guide walks you through documents, DEB-ID registration and the application steps.
Eligibility for an online MBA in hospital management
All four universities accept graduates from any discipline, with different percentage rules, as shown on their pages on 3 November 2026.
| University | Eligibility shown on the official page |
|---|---|
| Amity | Graduation in any discipline with 40% marks; below 40%, a test is conducted and you are eligible if you pass. International applicants need an AIU equivalence certificate |
| Chandigarh University | Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university; graduates of recognised professional programmes such as CA or ICWA are also eligible |
| LPU | The page has a fee and eligibility section but does not state the criteria; ask the university |
| ARKA JAIN | Bachelor’s degree of at least three years with 50% marks (45% for reserved categories); final-semester students may apply |
You do not need a medical or nursing degree for any of these programmes. A clinical background helps you apply the subjects, but the pages do not require one.
If you are comparing a healthcare MBA with other options and want a second opinion, our advisors can share the official fee schedule for your intake and help you check the UGC-DEB listing. Talk to an admission advisor before you pay any seat booking amount.
How GetOnlineDegree.in Helps
We help you compare online programmes from universities that appear on the UGC-DEB lists, using each university’s official pages. For a hospital management MBA, that means showing you which universities publish a healthcare track, what the semester-wise subjects are, what the current fee schedule says for your intake and how the university appears on the UGC-DEB list. If your goal is clinical, or a general MBA with operations would serve you better, we will say so. The decision stays with you.
Conclusion
An online MBA in hospital management is a real and regulated option in India, as long as you treat it as what it is: a management degree for the healthcare sector. As checked on 3 November 2026, Amity, Chandigarh University, LPU and ARKA JAIN publish healthcare tracks with named subjects, at fees from about ₹1,08,500 to ₹3,29,000. Clinical programmes such as medicine, nursing and paramedical courses stay off the online route under Regulation 2(z). Pick the track whose subjects match your next role, confirm the listing and degree name in writing, and check whether any scholarship applies to your session.
FAQs
Is an online MBA in hospital management valid in India?
Yes, when the university is listed for the MBA on the current UGC-DEB list for your admission session. Regulation 22 of the UGC 2020 regulations treats online degrees from recognised universities as equivalent to conventional ones. The 2026-27 online entitled list includes MBA (Hospital Administration) entries, and our partners’ healthcare tracks are specializations within a listed MBA. Confirm the listing in writing before you enrol.
Can a nurse or doctor do an online MBA in hospital management?
Yes. All four universities we checked accept graduates from any discipline, and Chandigarh University’s page specifically names nurses and clinical support staff moving into non-clinical leadership. The MBA adds management skills to your clinical background. It does not change your clinical licence or qualify you for any new clinical role.
What is the fee for an online MBA in hospital and healthcare management?
As checked on 3 November 2026, Amity lists ₹3,29,000 (₹3,02,680 one-time), Chandigarh University ₹2,33,500 (₹1,75,125 after a 25% early bird scholarship), LPU ₹50,000 a semester (₹40,400 with a grant valid until 7 November 2026) and ARKA JAIN ₹25,000 a semester plus registration and exam fees. Ask for a written schedule for your intake.
Can I study nursing or paramedical courses online instead?
No. Regulation 2(z) of the UGC 2020 regulations lists Medical, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dental, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and other Para-Medical disciplines among the programmes that cannot be offered in online or distance mode. A hospital management MBA is a management programme. If you want a clinical qualification, you will need a campus programme.
Is an online MHA available at these universities?
We did not find an online Master of Hospital Administration on the official pages of the nine partner universities we checked, or a programme with that title on the 2026-27 UGC-DEB online entitled list. The online options we found are MBA tracks in hospital or healthcare management at Amity, Chandigarh University, LPU and ARKA JAIN.
