Quick Answer

An online MBA with “Hospitality Management” in its name is hard to find in India. None of the nine universities we checked on 29 October 2026 offers one. The closest options are Chandigarh University’s online MBA tracks in Travel and Tourism, Airlines and Airport, and Event Management, and an MBA (Travel and Tourism Management) listed for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University. Hotel Management itself cannot be taught online under UGC rules.

Key Highlights

  • If you are searching for an online MBA hospitality management programme, expect to find tourism, airline and event tracks rather than a course with “hospitality” in its title: that is what the official pages show as of 29 October 2026.
  • UGC’s 2020 regulations list Hotel Management, Catering Technology, Culinary Sciences and Aircraft Maintenance among the disciplines that cannot be offered in online or distance mode, so a hotel management degree is a campus qualification.
  • Chandigarh University’s online MBA carries three service-industry tracks, with a list fee of ₹2,20,000 for the two years and six named tourism subjects in the Travel and Tourism track.
  • On the UGC-DEB entitled list for 2026-27, the only programme we found with tourism in its name is the MBA (Travel and Tourism Management) at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Uttar Pradesh.
  • If you want hands-on hotel operations training, the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, under the Ministry of Tourism, runs the campus route.

Is there an online MBA in hospitality management in India?

Not under that exact name at the universities we checked. We looked at the official online MBA pages of Amity, Manipal University Jaipur, Sikkim Manipal University, LPU, Chandigarh University, NMIMS, UPES, ARKA JAIN University and GLA on 29 October 2026, and none lists a specialization called Hospitality Management.

What does exist is a set of related tracks inside an online MBA. Chandigarh University offers Travel and Tourism Management, Airlines and Airport Management, and Event Management as specializations within its MBA. These are the tracks people usually mean when they search for a hospitality MBA online, because they cover the service, travel and guest-experience side of the industry from a management point of view.

There is also one programme on the UGC-DEB online entitled list for 2026-27 that carries tourism in its formal name: the MBA (Travel and Tourism Management) at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University in Uttar Pradesh. We could not find an official programme page for it, so we only report the listing itself.

So the honest answer is this. If you want a management degree that prepares you for the business side of travel, tourism, airlines or events, an online MBA can do that. If you want a hotel management qualification with kitchen, front office and housekeeping training, that is a campus programme, and the reason is in the UGC regulations.

What do UGC rules say about hotel management and online study?

The UGC regulations bar hotel management programmes from online and distance mode. Regulation 2(z) of the UGC online and ODL regulations, notified in September 2020, defines “prohibited programmes” as those that “shall not be permitted to be offered in Open and Distance Learning Mode and Online Mode”. The list begins with “the programmes in the disciplines (including their allied domains) of Engineering, Medical, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and other Para-Medical disciplines, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dental, Architecture, Law, Agriculture, Horticulture, Hotel Management, Catering Technology, Culinary Sciences, Aircraft Maintenance, Visual Arts and Sports”.

The same regulations add a second rule for online mode. Under Regulation 3(C)(ii), “any programme requiring practical or laboratory course as a curricular requirement, shall be prohibited through Online mode, except in cases where practical component is limited to programming and coding including software tools.” Hotel management training depends on practical kitchens, service floors and front office work, which is one reason it sits on the campus side of the line.

How is an MBA with a tourism or airline track different?

An MBA is a management degree. On the UGC-DEB list, Chandigarh University’s online programme appears as an MBA, and its tourism, airline and event tracks are specializations chosen in the third and fourth semesters. The regulation’s wording covers disciplines “including their allied domains”, and it does not spell out how that phrase applies to management specializations. We are not in a position to interpret it for you.

What you can do is check two things in writing. First, confirm the exact degree name you will receive and that it appears against the university on the current UGC-DEB entitled list. Second, ask the university whether any specialization subject involves practical or laboratory work. Our guide to the UGC approved online MBA walks you through reading that list.

Which universities offer hospitality-related online MBA tracks?

Only one of the nine universities we checked runs hospitality-adjacent tracks in its online MBA. Here is what each official page showed on 29 October 2026.

UniversityHospitality, tourism, airline or event track in the online MBA?What we found
Chandigarh UniversityYes: Travel and Tourism, Airlines and Airport, Event ManagementDedicated pages with named subjects; UGC-DEB entitled for 2026-27
Amity University OnlineNo MBA trackOffers a BBA in Travel and Tourism at undergraduate level
Manipal University JaipurNoHospitality and tourism appear only in its list of industries, not as an elective
Sikkim Manipal UniversityNoDual specialization from six areas, none in hospitality
LPU OnlineNoTwelve specializations, none in hospitality or tourism
NMIMSNoMBA tracks in marketing, finance, HR, operations, IT and analytics
UPESNoSector tracks in energy, power, infrastructure and logistics
ARKA JAIN UniversityNoMarketing, finance, HR, analytics, operations, project and healthcare tracks
GLA UniversityNoElectives listed without a hospitality option

Outside our partner list, the 2026-27 entitled list shows an MBA (Travel and Tourism Management) for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, a state university in Uttar Pradesh. We did not find “hospitality”, “hotel” or “aviation” in any programme name on that list.

One small trap to watch for: “hospital management” and “hospitality management” look almost the same in a search result. Chandigarh University, ARKA JAIN and several others offer healthcare or hospital management tracks. Those prepare you for hospitals and clinics, not hotels and travel. If your interest is medicines rather than hospitals, read our guide to the online MBA in pharmaceutical management.

What does Chandigarh University’s Travel and Tourism track teach?

The track adds six tourism subjects to a standard MBA core. According to the CU travel and tourism MBA page, the programme runs over four semesters, with the specialization subjects in semesters three and four.

SemesterSpecialization subjects listed
Semester 3Tourism Economics; Tourism Marketing; Geography and International Tourism; Tourism Concept and Impact
Semester 4Travel Agency Management; Tourism Policy, Planning and Development

The first two semesters are the same for every CU online MBA. Semester one covers Business, Society and Law; Financial Reporting and Analysis; Leadership and Organization Behavior; Managerial Economics; and Marketing Management. Semester two covers People Management, Consumer Behaviour, Business Research Methods, Financial Management, and Operations and Quality Management. Semester three adds Strategy, Business and Globalization, Digital Marketing and Decision Science alongside the electives, and semester four adds Project Management, Values and Ethics, and Academic Research Writing.

The page also lists a set of Harvard ManageMentor modules, such as Strategy Planning and Execution, Decision-Making and Team Management, worth 20 credits in total. The page describes the MBA as allowing a dual specialization.

Read the subject list closely and you will see what this track is and is not. It is about the business of tourism: demand, marketing, destinations, agency operations and policy. It does not train you to run a hotel kitchen or front desk. If your goal is a management role in a travel company, a tourism board, a destination business or a tour operator, the fit is good. If your goal is hotel operations, look at the campus route further down.

What about the Airlines and Airport Management track?

This track focuses on aviation business and operations. The CU airlines and airport MBA page lists these specialization subjects.

SemesterSpecialization subjects listed
Semester 3Airline and Airport Operations; Strategic Airport Planning and Marketing; Aircraft Maintenance Management; Aviation Safety and Security
Semester 4Aviation Resource Management; Aviation Legal Environment

You will notice a subject called Aircraft Maintenance Management, while the UGC regulation bars Aircraft Maintenance programmes in online mode. The subject name suggests the management of maintenance functions rather than technical maintenance training, but the page does not explain its content. Ask CU for the subject syllabus and whether it includes any practical component before you enrol. That is a reasonable question for any learner, and a good university will answer it in writing.

Keep in mind that an MBA in this space prepares you for commercial, planning and operations management roles, not for licensed technical work, which has its own regulator and training route.

Is Event Management a hospitality specialization?

It is close, because events and hospitality share guest experience, venues, vendors and budgets. The CU event management MBA page lists Culture and Entertainment, Event Risk Management and Event Marketing Campaign among its semester three subjects, and Principles of Event Management and Budgeting and Costing of Events in semester four.

The page describes events across corporate, social, entertainment and digital platforms. If you work in weddings, conferences, exhibitions or brand activations, or you want to move into those roles from sales or hotel banqueting, this track speaks to that work more directly than a general marketing specialization.

How much does a hospitality-related online MBA cost?

Chandigarh University lists the same fee for all three tracks. As checked on 29 October 2026, each specialization page shows a list programme fee of ₹2,20,000 for the two years. The same pages display a 25% early bird scholarship that brings the fee to ₹1,65,000, which the page breaks down as ₹82,500 a year or ₹41,250 a semester. Earlier this month the CU page showed that early bird offer with a closing date of 14 October and no year, so treat the reduced figure as something to confirm for your intake rather than a promise. The pages also show seat booking at ₹10,000 and mention no-cost EMI.

Item at Chandigarh University (as checked on 29 October 2026)Amount
List programme fee, two years₹2,20,000
Fee shown after 25% early bird scholarship₹1,65,000
Per year at the early bird figure₹82,500
Per semester at the early bird figure₹41,250
Seat booking₹10,000

We could not find an official fee page for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University’s online MBA (Travel and Tourism Management), so we do not quote a figure. For a wider view of what online MBAs cost across universities, see our online MBA fees comparison, which uses official pages for each row.

Hospitality, tourism or general management: which should you pick?

Pick the track that matches the job you want next, not the industry you like most. A general MBA with marketing or operations can also take you into hospitality and travel businesses, and sometimes it keeps more doors open.

Your next roleTrack that fits bestWhy
Tour operator, travel agency, destination marketing, tourism boardTravel and TourismSubjects cover tourism economics, marketing, agency management and policy
Airline or airport commercial, planning or ground operationsAirlines and AirportSubjects cover airline and airport operations, planning, safety and the legal environment
Weddings, conferences, exhibitions, brand activationsEvent ManagementSubjects cover event risk, marketing campaigns, budgeting and costing
Revenue, sales or marketing in hotels and travel brandsMarketing or digital marketingBroader marketing skills travel well across hotels, airlines and online travel platforms
Hotel, resort or service operations managementOperationsAn operations management track builds process, quality and supply chain skills that apply to service businesses
Hands-on hotel operations: kitchen, front office, housekeepingCampus hotel management programmeUGC rules keep hotel management off the online route

If you are already working in a hotel and want to move into a management role, a general MBA with marketing or operations is often the more flexible choice, because those subjects apply to any service business. If you are certain you want tourism or aviation, the dedicated track gives you sector vocabulary and context that a general MBA will not.

Who should choose a hospitality-related online MBA?

This route suits people who already have a foot in the industry, or a clear plan to enter it, and who need to keep working while they study.

It fits well if:

  • You work in a travel agency, airline, airport services company, hotel sales team or event firm and want a management degree without leaving your job.
  • You are a graduate from any discipline who wants to move into the business side of tourism or aviation.
  • You run or plan to run a travel or events business and want structured knowledge of marketing, finance and operations alongside sector subjects.

It is a weaker fit if:

  • You want to train as a chef, front office executive or housekeeping professional. Those skills need a campus programme.
  • You need a qualification for licensed technical aviation work. That has its own training and licensing route.
  • You are unsure about the industry. A general MBA keeps your options wider while you decide.

If you are working full time, our guide to the online MBA for working professionals explains how classes, exams and weekly study fit around a job.

What if you want hands-on hotel management training?

Choose a campus programme. The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology describes itself as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Its website lists campus programmes including the B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration and an M.Sc. in Hospitality Administration, along with diplomas in food production, food and beverage service and front office, and it runs the NCHM JEE for admission to the B.Sc. programme. It also lists the Institutes of Hotel Management affiliated to it, grouped as central government, state government, PSU and private institutes.

That route is for you if you want to work in hotel operations from day one, because it includes the practical training the online mode cannot offer. Many people combine the two over a career: a campus hospitality qualification first, then an online MBA later when they move into management.

If you have just finished Class 12 and like the travel side rather than hotel operations, Amity’s undergraduate BBA in Travel and Tourism is an online option at bachelor’s level. You would then be eligible for an MBA after graduation.

What skills does a hospitality-related MBA build?

Across the three tracks, the subjects point to a consistent set of management skills. We describe them in general terms here, because no official source we found publishes outcome data for these specializations.

  • Demand and market thinking. Tourism economics, marketing and consumer behaviour help you understand why travellers choose a destination, airline or event and what they will pay.
  • Service operations. Operations and quality management, airline and airport operations, and event risk management are about running a service reliably at scale.
  • Planning and budgeting. Budgeting and costing of events, financial management and airport planning teach you to plan spend, capacity and timelines.
  • Policy and regulation. Tourism policy and the aviation legal environment help you work inside rules that shape these sectors.
  • People management. Leadership, organization behaviour and people management matter in industries where front-line teams decide the guest experience.

The roles these skills lead to vary by company and by your experience. Typical titles in this space include travel operations, destination and tourism marketing, airline commercial and ground operations, event planning and management, and sales and revenue roles in travel brands. No official source we found tracks outcomes for online graduates of these tracks, so be cautious with any page that promises specific roles or pay.

Red flags in hospitality MBA marketing

A few warning signs come up often in this category.

Red flagWhy it mattersWhat to do
An “online hotel management degree”Hotel Management is a prohibited discipline for online and ODL mode under Regulation 2(z)Ask exactly what degree is awarded and check its name on the UGC-DEB list
“Hospitality” used loosely for a hospital management trackHealthcare management is a different fieldRead the subject list before you apply
Practical training promised entirely onlineOnline programmes cannot require practical or laboratory courses except programming and codingAsk how any practical element is delivered and assessed
A specialization name that is not on the degreeSome tracks are electives within a general MBAAsk how the specialization appears on your degree and mark sheet
An early bird offer with no year on the pageThe figure may not apply to your intakeAsk for a written fee schedule for your session
Placement or salary promisesNo official outcome data exists for these online tracksAsk for documented outcomes for the online cohort only

Questions to ask before you enrol

Send these questions to the university and keep the replies.

  1. What is the exact name of the degree I will receive, and where does it appear on the 2026-27 UGC-DEB list?
  2. How will the specialization appear on my degree certificate and mark sheet?
  3. Does any specialization subject include practical, field or laboratory work, and how is it assessed?
  4. For the airline track, what does the Aircraft Maintenance Management subject cover?
  5. What is the full fee for my intake, including exam, registration and seat booking charges, and does the early bird scholarship apply to me?
  6. How are exams conducted, and what device and internet setup do I need?
  7. Can I change my specialization after semester two if my plans change?
  8. What industry projects or case studies are part of the track?

If you are weighing a tourism, airline or event track against a general MBA and want a second opinion on what fits your career, our advisors can compare the options with you and share the official fee schedule for your intake. Speak to an admission advisor before you pay any booking amount.

How GetOnlineDegree.in Helps

We help you compare online programmes from universities that appear on the UGC-DEB lists, using each university’s official pages. For a hospitality-related MBA, that means showing you which universities actually offer a tourism, airline or event track, what the subjects are, and what the current official fee schedule says for your intake. If your goal is better served by a general MBA with marketing or operations, or by a campus hospitality programme, we will tell you that too. The decision stays with you.

Conclusion

An online MBA hospitality management programme, under that exact name, is not what you will find at the universities we checked. What you will find is a management degree with tourism, airline or event specializations, led among our partners by Chandigarh University, and one tourism MBA on the UGC-DEB list outside our partner group. Hotel management itself is a campus qualification under UGC rules. Choose the track that matches your next role, confirm the degree name and subject details in writing, and make sure the university appears on the current UGC-DEB list for your session.

FAQs

Can I do an online MBA in hospitality management in India?

You can do an online MBA with a hospitality-related specialization, but not one titled Hospitality Management at the nine universities we checked on 29 October 2026. Chandigarh University offers Travel and Tourism, Airlines and Airport, and Event Management tracks within its online MBA. Confirm the degree name and the university’s UGC-DEB listing for your session before you enrol.

Is an online hotel management degree valid in India?

Hotel Management is one of the disciplines that Regulation 2(z) of the UGC 2020 regulations says cannot be offered in online or distance mode, along with Catering Technology and Culinary Sciences. A hotel management qualification is therefore a campus programme. Be cautious with any course that claims to award an online hotel management degree, and check its name on the UGC-DEB list.

What is the fee for an online MBA in travel and tourism?

At Chandigarh University, the list fee shown on 29 October 2026 is ₹2,20,000 for two years. The page also displays ₹1,65,000 after a 25% early bird scholarship, and ₹10,000 seat booking. Ask whether the early bird figure applies to your intake, and request a written fee schedule that includes exam and registration charges.

Is a general MBA better than a hospitality specialization?

It depends on your goal. A tourism, airline or event track gives you sector subjects and vocabulary. A general MBA with marketing or operations applies across hotels, airlines and travel brands, and keeps more options open. If you are already in the industry and sure of your direction, the specialization helps. If not, the broader route is safer.

Does an online MBA with a tourism track help me get a hotel job?

It can help you move into management, sales, marketing or planning roles in travel and hospitality businesses. It does not replace the practical training that hotel operations roles such as kitchen, front office or housekeeping require. For those, a campus programme such as the ones listed by the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology is the usual route.
