Quick Answer
An online MBA in International Business is a two-year MBA degree in which the third and fourth semesters focus on trade, foreign exchange, export-import procedure, international marketing and global strategy. Amity, Manipal University Jaipur, LPU, Chandigarh University, UPES and GLA offer it in online mode. NMIMS, Sikkim Manipal and ARKA JAIN do not offer a dedicated track. Fees run from about ₹1 lakh to ₹2.25 lakh.
Key Highlights
- An online MBA international business track is offered by six of the nine universities we checked; NMIMS, Sikkim Manipal University and ARKA JAIN University do not list a dedicated International Business specialization.
- Export-import procedure and documentation are where the curricula differ most: CU, UPES and MUJ each name dedicated subjects for them, while Amity leans towards trade policy, currency and WTO rules.
- Amity runs a separate International Finance specialization at ₹3,29,000 (list) that its page links to ACCA paper exemptions; it is a finance degree with a global angle, not an International Business track.
- Chandigarh University splits global topics into three tracks: International Business, International Relations and Foreign Exchange Management.
- Every International Business track we checked sits inside a standard two-year MBA, so the degree name and the UGC-DEB listing are the same as for any other specialization from that university.
What is an online MBA in International Business?
It is a regular two-year MBA delivered in online mode, where you pick International Business as your specialization, usually in the third semester. The first year covers the same core subjects every MBA student takes: accounting, economics, marketing, finance, HR, statistics and research methods. The specialization subjects arrive in semesters three and four.
That structure matters more than the label. You are not buying a different degree. You are buying an MBA from a particular university, with a set of elective subjects that point towards cross-border trade and global markets. So two questions decide whether a programme is right for you: is the university permitted to run an online MBA for your admission session, and do its International Business subjects match the work you want to do?
The first question is answered on the UGC-DEB list. Our guide on how to check a UGC approved online MBA walks through it step by step. The second question is what most of this article is about.
How is it different from an “international MBA”?
People often search for an “international MBA online” when they mean one of two quite different things. Some want an MBA from an Indian university with an international business focus, which is what this article covers. Others want an MBA awarded by a foreign university. Those are separate decisions with separate rules, and a foreign online degree raises its own recognition questions in India. If that second meaning is what you have in mind, check the awarding institution’s status carefully before you pay anything.
Which universities offer an online MBA in International Business?
Six of the nine universities we checked on 29 October 2026 offer a dedicated International Business specialization in their online MBA. Three do not. Here is the summary, taken from each university’s official programme page.
| University | Specialization name on the official page | Dedicated track? | Official page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amity University Online | MBA with Specialization in International Business Management | Yes | Amity International Business MBA |
| Manipal University Jaipur | Online MBA with Specialization in International Business (super or dual) | Yes | MUJ International Business MBA (onlinemanipal.com) |
| Lovely Professional University | Online MBA in International Business | Yes | LPU International Business MBA |
| Chandigarh University | Online MBA in International Business (IB) | Yes, plus International Relations and Foreign Exchange Management tracks | CU International Business MBA |
| UPES | MBA with specialisation in International Business | Yes | UPES International Business MBA |
| GLA University | International Business Management listed among MBA electives | Yes (subjects not published) | GLA online MBA page |
| NMIMS | No International Business specialization listed | No | Not applicable |
| Sikkim Manipal University | Not among its dual specialization options | No | SMU dual specialization MBA |
| ARKA JAIN University | Not among its specializations | No | ARKA JAIN online MBA |
Three of these universities have a profile on our site, so you can compare their full programme range: Amity University Online, Manipal University Jaipur and LPU Online.
What if your preferred university has no International Business track?
You are not completely shut out of global subjects. ARKA JAIN’s Finance specialization includes International Finance and Investment Banking, its Marketing specialization includes Global Marketing, and its HR specialization includes International Human Resource Management. Sikkim Manipal’s HR specialization includes Compensation Management and International Human Resource Management. These are single subjects inside other specializations, though, not a full trade-focused track. If export-import and trade policy are what you actually want to study, a university with a dedicated track is the better fit.
What will you study in an International Business specialization?
You will study four to six subjects on international trade, global markets and cross-border management, on top of the common MBA core. The exact list varies a lot, and the variation is the most useful thing to compare. Below is what each university names on its official page.
Amity University Online
Amity’s International Business Management specialization adds these subjects, according to its programme page:
- Semester 3: International Business and Practice, International Currency Management, WTO and International Regulatory Environment, Global Commodity Trade, International Business Negotiation.
- Semester 4: Managing Business in Emerging Markets, Global Outsourcing, Foreign Trade Policy.
Alongside these, semester three includes Strategic Management and a Minor Project, and semester four includes Digital Marketing and AI Tools and Applications as common subjects. The mix is strong on trade rules and policy, with WTO regulation and India’s foreign trade policy named as separate subjects.
Manipal University Jaipur
MUJ lets you take International Business as a single (super) specialization or as one half of a dual specialization. Its elective group lists:
- Semester 3: International Financial Management, International Marketing, International HRM, Export-Import Management.
- Semester 4: Foreign Trade of India, Global Logistics and SCM, International Business Environment and International Law, Export-Import Finance.
Semester four also carries a core subject called International Business Management for all MBA students. MUJ’s page describes the programme as 90 credits over four semesters and suggests 15 to 20 hours of study a week. If you are weighing International Business against a supply chain path, the Global Logistics and SCM subject is a useful bridge.
Lovely Professional University
LPU does not publish a semester-wise subject list for this specialization on the programme page. It names the skill areas instead: Export and Import Management, International Trade Logistics and International Economics, plus learning areas in Cross-Cultural Communication, Global Strategy, International Finance and Risk Management. The page also mentions access to LinkedIn Learning courses on international business topics, recommends 8 to 10 hours a week, and describes live plus recorded lectures. Ask LPU for the detailed syllabus before you enrol so you can see the actual subject names and credits.
Chandigarh University
CU’s International Business track lists these electives:
- Semester 3: Export Import Documentation, International Economics, International Trade, Financing of International Trade.
- Semester 4: International Human Resource Management, International Advertising and Brand Management.
The semester three core also includes a subject called Strategy, Business and Globalization. What makes CU different is that it offers two neighbouring tracks:
- International Relations: Global Business and Trade, International Economics and Finance, Geopolitics and Diplomatic Strategies, International Marketing and Cultural Intelligence.
- Foreign Exchange Management: Foreign Exchange Markets and Currency Derivatives, International Banking and Forex Operations, Global Financial Markets and Institutions, International Trade Finance and Documentation.
CU’s page also describes a dual specialization option, so you could pair International Business with a related track if the university allows that combination. Confirm the exact pairing rules with CU.
UPES
UPES publishes the clearest semester-by-semester list:
- Semester 3: International Business, Foreign Exchange Management and Trade Finance, International Marketing Management, Foreign Trade Policy, Procedure and Documentation, International Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
- Semester 4: Strategic Management, International Business Law, Corporate Restructuring, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Dissertation.
Five of UPES’s semester three subjects are international, which is the heaviest concentration in this comparison. The fourth semester mixes one international subject with general strategy subjects and a dissertation.
GLA University
GLA lists International Business Management among the electives on its online MBA page, alongside Marketing, HR, Finance, IT, Operations, Banking and Financial Services, Business Analytics, Risk Management and Supply Chain Management. The page does not publish the subjects inside the International Business elective, so ask GLA for the syllabus. You can also see GLA’s wider programme range on our GLA University profile.
How the curricula compare at a glance
| Topic area | Amity | MUJ | LPU | CU | UPES |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Export-import procedure and documentation | Foreign Trade Policy | Export-Import Management | Export and Import Management (skill area) | Export Import Documentation | Foreign Trade Policy, Procedure and Documentation |
| Trade finance and foreign exchange | International Currency Management | Export-Import Finance, International Financial Management | International Finance (learning area) | Financing of International Trade | Foreign Exchange Management and Trade Finance |
| International marketing | Not named separately | International Marketing | Not named separately | International Advertising and Brand Management | International Marketing Management |
| Trade law, WTO and regulation | WTO and International Regulatory Environment | International Business Environment and International Law | Not named separately | Not named separately | International Business Law |
| Global logistics | Global Outsourcing | Global Logistics and SCM | International Trade Logistics | Not named separately | International Logistics and SCM |
| Cross-cultural and HR | International Business Negotiation | International HRM | Cross-Cultural Communication | International HRM | Not named separately |
“Not named separately” means the official page did not list a subject with that focus. It does not mean the topic is never taught; it may sit inside another subject. Use this table to shape your questions, not to rule a university out.
How much does an online MBA in International Business cost?
The specialization does not change the fee at any university that publishes one: you pay the same as for the university’s standard online MBA. Here are the figures shown on the official pages on 29 October 2026.
| University | Fee shown on the International Business page | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| GLA University | ₹24,250 per semester; headline “INR 1,05,000 (All Inclusive)” | Registration ₹2,000; exam fee ₹1,500 per semester; alumni fee ₹1,000 |
| UPES | Total not shown on this page; EMI from ₹8,864 | UPES’s main MBA page said “starting at ₹1,75,000” when we checked on 21 October 2026; ask for the International Business fee in writing |
| Manipal University Jaipur | ₹46,000 per semester; ₹1,84,000 total | EMI from ₹6,517; scholarship of up to 20% for various categories |
| LPU | ₹50,000 per semester, including a ₹2,000 exam fee | A 20% Student Grant brought it to ₹40,400 per semester, valid until 31 October 2026; registration ₹1,000, non-refundable |
| Chandigarh University | ₹2,20,000 programme fee | The page showed a 25% early-bird scholarship bringing it to ₹1,65,000 (₹41,250 per semester); seat booking ₹10,000 |
| Amity University Online | ₹56,300 per semester; ₹2,25,000 total | One-time payment ₹2,07,000; annual ₹1,06,880; no-cost EMI from ₹8,906 a month for 24 months |
| Amity (International Finance, for comparison) | ₹82,300 per semester; ₹3,29,000 total | One-time ₹3,02,680; EMI from ₹13,022 a month |
Offers such as LPU’s grant and CU’s early-bird scholarship change often, so treat them as a snapshot and ask for the current written fee schedule before you pay. For a broader comparison of every partner’s MBA fee, extras and EMI options, see our breakdown of online MBA fees.
International Business, International Finance or Marketing: which should you pick?
Pick International Business if you want the operational and policy side of cross-border trade. Pick International Finance if your work is about money moving across borders, reporting and investment. Pick Marketing if you mainly want to sell, and global markets are only part of that. If you want finance without the international angle, compare the MBA finance online options.
| If your goal is… | Lean towards | Why, based on the official subject lists |
|---|---|---|
| Running or supporting export-import operations | International Business (CU, UPES, MUJ) | Named subjects on documentation, foreign trade policy and export-import finance |
| Trade policy, WTO rules and regulatory work | International Business (Amity, UPES) | WTO and International Regulatory Environment, International Business Law |
| Treasury, forex or cross-border finance roles | International Finance (Amity) or CU’s Foreign Exchange Management track | Subjects on international financial management, reporting and forex markets |
| Brand and market expansion abroad | Marketing, or International Business with an international marketing subject (MUJ, UPES, CU) | International Marketing and International Advertising subjects |
| Global supply chains and sourcing | International Business with logistics (MUJ, UPES) or a supply chain specialization | Global Logistics and SCM, International Logistics and SCM |
If you are torn between two directions, a dual specialization can help. MUJ allows a dual specialization and CU describes one too. You might pair International Business with Marketing, or with a supply chain track. Our guides to the online MBA in digital marketing and the online MBA operations management specialization show how those neighbouring options are structured.
A note on Amity’s International Finance specialization
Amity markets its MBA in International Finance as accredited by ACCA, UK, and says it carries 9 ACCA paper exemptions. Those are Amity’s own statements on its programme page. If ACCA exemptions matter to your plans, confirm the exact papers and the current exemption rules directly with ACCA before you rely on them. For what different badges and accreditations do and do not mean, see our explainer on the accredited online MBA.
Who should choose an online MBA in International Business?
It suits you if your current or target role involves foreign customers, overseas suppliers, export orders, import compliance or international partners. It is less useful if your work is almost entirely domestic and you have no plan to change that.
People who tend to get the most from it:
- Professionals already handling exports or imports in a manufacturing, trading or logistics business who want the theory and the procedure behind what they do.
- Family business members planning to start exporting or sourcing from abroad.
- Sales and business development staff working with overseas clients.
- People in shipping, freight forwarding or customs-related roles who want a management qualification.
- Anyone planning to move into a company with significant cross-border operations.
If you are unsure, look at the semester three subject list of your shortlisted university and ask yourself whether you would use at least three of those subjects in the next two years. If the answer is no, a more general specialization may serve you better.
Most of the people choosing this path are already working. Our guide to the online MBA for working professionals covers eligibility, exam formats and study planning around a full-time job.
What practical knowledge will help alongside the degree?
Two official resources are worth knowing whatever university you choose, because export-import subjects keep referring back to them.
The first is the Importer-Exporter Code. According to the DGFT IEC page, an IEC is a key business identification number that is mandatory for exporting from or importing into India, unless a person is specifically exempted. For services exports, the page says an IEC is not necessary except when the service provider is taking benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy. DGFT also notes that the IEC now matches the firm’s PAN, though it is still issued separately on application, and that a firm needs a PAN, a bank account and a valid address before applying.
The second is India’s trade policy framework. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade publishes the Foreign Trade Policy documents that Amity’s “Foreign Trade Policy”, MUJ’s “Foreign Trade of India” and UPES’s “Foreign Trade Policy, Procedure and Documentation” subjects are built around. At the global level, India has been a member of the WTO since 1 January 1995, according to the WTO India member page, which is why WTO rules appear in several curricula.
Reading these official pages early in your specialization will make the subjects far easier to follow, and it gives you vocabulary you can use at work straight away.
What roles does an International Business specialization prepare you for?
It prepares you for roles where you manage, coordinate or analyse cross-border business, rather than for one fixed job title. We do not quote salary or placement figures, because no official dataset covers online MBA graduates in this specialization. Job titles that universities themselves list on their International Business pages include:
- Export manager and export coordinator
- International trade manager or international trade specialist
- International business development roles
- International marketing manager
- Global supply chain or international logistics manager
- International business analyst
Treat these as directions, not promises. What you can realistically move into depends on your existing experience, your industry and the employers around you. A sales executive in an export house, for example, is better placed to use this specialization for promotion than someone with no trade exposure at all.
How do you judge an International Business curriculum before enrolling?
Read the subject names first, then ask for the detail behind them. A strong curriculum for most learners covers four things: trade procedure and documentation, trade finance and foreign exchange, international marketing, and the legal or regulatory side of trade.
A simple scoring method:
- List the semester three and four International Business subjects for each university on your shortlist.
- Mark which of the four areas above each subject covers.
- Check whether the programme includes a project or dissertation you could base on a real export or import problem at work.
- Ask whether case studies use Indian trade examples, international ones, or both.
- Ask how the subject is assessed: assignments, case analyses, projects or only exams.
UPES, CU and MUJ score well on procedure and documentation from their published lists. Amity scores well on policy and regulation. LPU and GLA need the full syllabus before you can score them fairly.
What should you check before you enrol?
Check the university’s UGC-DEB listing first, then the specialization detail, then the money.
- UGC-DEB status. Seven of these universities (Amity University Uttar Pradesh, MUJ, SMU, LPU, CU, NMIMS and UPES) appear on the 2026-27 entitled list with an MBA. GLA University also appears on that list with an MBA, alongside its BBA, BCA, BCom (Hons.) and MCA. ARKA JAIN is on the recognised list for an MBA (General) but offers no International Business track.
- Exact specialization name. Ask how it will appear on your mark sheets.
- Full syllabus. Especially at LPU and GLA, where the programme pages do not list subject names.
- Dual specialization rules. Which pairings are allowed, and in which semester you choose.
- Total cost in writing. Including registration, exam, alumni and resit fees, and whether any offer applies to all four semesters.
- Exam format. Remote proctored, on-demand or centre-based, and what device you need. Our guide on studying MBA online explains how online classes and exams usually work.
- Admission steps and documents. Our online MBA admission guide covers the DEB-ID, ABC ID and document checks.
If an International Business page promises outcomes that sound too certain, such as guaranteed overseas jobs, ask for the evidence behind the claim before you let it influence your choice.
Can you do it if your degree is not in commerce?
Yes, at every university here, eligibility is a bachelor’s degree in any discipline; the specialization does not add a subject requirement. The minimum marks vary: UPES asks for 50%, or 45% with at least two years of work experience, and accepts CA, CS and ICWA holders; CU accepts a bachelor’s in any discipline and graduates of professional programmes such as CA and ICWA. Check each university’s eligibility rule for your exact marks before applying.
If you have never studied economics or accounting, expect the first-year core to take more effort. The International Business subjects in the second year build on those basics, especially anything involving trade finance or foreign exchange.
Ready to compare International Business tracks side by side? Share your graduation marks, work experience and the kind of global role you want, and an admission advisor can help you shortlist the universities whose subjects match that goal and send you their current official fee schedules.
How GetOnlineDegree.in Helps
We compare online MBA programmes from UGC-DEB listed universities using their official pages, so you can see the actual subject lists, fees and eligibility rules side by side. For International Business in particular, we can help you check which universities have a dedicated track, request syllabus details that are not on the public pages, and confirm the DEB listing for your admission session. The final choice stays with you. Our job is to make sure it is based on official information rather than on marketing claims.
Conclusion
An online MBA in International Business is a standard two-year MBA with a trade-focused second year. Six of the nine universities we checked offer it, and their subject lists differ in useful ways. UPES, CU and MUJ name export-import procedure, documentation and trade finance most clearly. Amity leans towards trade policy, currency and WTO rules, and separately sells an International Finance MBA at a higher fee. LPU and GLA publish skill areas or elective names but not full subject lists.
Choose the track whose subjects you would actually use in your next role, confirm the university’s UGC-DEB listing for your session, and get the full syllabus and fee schedule in writing before you pay.
FAQs
Which universities offer an online MBA in International Business in India?
Among the universities we checked on 29 October 2026, Amity University Online, Manipal University Jaipur, LPU, Chandigarh University, UPES and GLA University offer a dedicated International Business specialization in their online MBA. NMIMS, Sikkim Manipal University and ARKA JAIN University do not list one, though some include single international subjects inside other specializations.
Is an online MBA in International Business valid in India?
The specialization does not affect validity. What matters is that the university and its MBA appear on the UGC-DEB online list for your admission session. Under UGC’s 2020 regulations, an online degree from a recognised university is treated as equivalent to the same degree in conventional mode. Check the DEB list before you pay any fee.
What subjects are taught in an online MBA in International Business?
Common subjects include export-import management and documentation, foreign trade policy, trade finance and foreign exchange, international marketing, international business law or WTO regulation, global logistics and international HRM. The exact mix differs by university, so compare the official semester three and four lists before choosing.
Is International Business better than International Finance?
Neither is better in general. International Business focuses on trade operations, policy, documentation and global strategy. International Finance focuses on cross-border financial management, reporting and investment. Choose International Business for export-import and trade roles, and International Finance if your work centres on treasury, forex or financial reporting.
